For step 5, I’ve learned (the hard way) that the sooner you test your idea the better. I don’t have a generic test, it depends on what you’re trying to build. For example, if your idea involves creating a sort of paid software, you can build a quick landing page where you can explain what the software is doing and you have a “Prices” button, then monitor how many people click that button. When Marc Randolph thought about netflix, the first thing he did was to go buy a dvd and send it over mail. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdJPPaKygFQ), and so on… The aim is to gather as much data as possible as fast as possible. Also customer interviews (if you do them properly). There’s a book called “The mom test” (http://momtestbook.com/) which explains them quite well.
